CMF GENERAL MISSION PROCURATOR VISITS EAST-NIGERIA PROVINCE
by cmf
The Province of East Nigeria (Claretian Missionaries) received with delight the General Mission Procurator, Rev. Fr. Lord Winner, CMF, who stepped in on a three weeks visit to the two major organisms in Nigeria (the Province of East-Nigeria and the Independent Delegation of West-Nigeria). His advent took him first to Ghana missions from the 8th to the 15th of November 2023. Ghana Missions form part of the East-Nigeria Province though situated in a different country. Fr. Winner arrived Nigeria on November 16th, 2023, and visited the missions, institutions and all ongoing projects in West Nigeria Independent Delegation from the 16th to the 20th of November 2023. He was warmly welcomed into the Province of East Nigeria on the 21st of November and continued his work of visiting communities, schools and other places where ongoing projects are carried out. Among the institutions of learning he visited where the Institute of Consecrated Life in Africa (InCLA) Abuja and the Claretian University of Nigeria, Maryland Nekede Owerri. Also, among the high points of the visit was his Lecture with the members of the Province of East Nigeria on Friday 24th of November 2023, on the functions of General Mission Procure in the Congregation. It was organized by the Mission Procure Team of the East-Nigeria Province. The Lecture took place at the Provincial Curia of East Nigeria Province and was attended by many of the brothers, a good number of whom were those in the neighbouring states. Room was created for online participation for the benefit of those hitched by distance and other harsh circumstances.
Among onsite participants were about 18 Claretian Priests, the Local Superiors, the Provincial Superior of East Nigeria Province VRF Nathaniel Ekeh, CMF and three members of his council while other council members participated online. Also present onsite was the immediate past Provincial Superior and Auxiliary Bishop-Elect of the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara in Imo State, Nigeria Msgr. Simeon Nwobi, CMF.
The lecture started at 10:30am at the Board Meeting Hall of the Curia at Owerri, with a lot of enthusiasm and expectations from the members. As expected, without any form of disappointment, the lecturer and specialist in social work management did justice to the topic. In his introduction, he gave an exposé of the universal geographical spots of Claretian presence. (about seventy countries of the world). He took the participants through the objectives of the Mission Procure as enshrined in the Claretian Directory no. 123. Here he dealt on the vision and activities of the Mission Procure which helped the members understand clearer the actual work of the Mission Procure. Issues about Project writing and implementation were also discussed, where he gave further insight on the way and manner projects can be presented better. Furthermore, he touched on the issues of funding of the Projects and the various means of fundraising by the Mission Procures – this formed a large part of the general lecture. The lecture was an opportunity to have more insight on the way the Mission Procure operates, both at the general level and at the provincial level. Raised questions were happily responded to and further clarifications given which spiced up the day’s activity.
At the end of the lecture the Provincial Mission Procurator, Rev. Fr. Casmir Ibe, CMF, on behalf of the Procure Team of the Province, gave the vote of thanks to Fr. Lord Winner. He expressed his joy and gratitude for the expected and satisfactory lecture, and the availability and care of the General Mission Procure towards the Province.
Positive remarks, expression of joy and satisfaction as well as commendation also came from the Provincial Superior VRF Nathaniel Eke, CMF at the end of the lecture. He thanked all the members who participated and enjoined all to use the knowledge acquired for the growth of the province and the congregation in general. The lecture came to a close with a benediction by Msgr. Simeon Nwobi, CMF, the Auxiliary Bishop-Elect of Ahiara Diocese, Nigeria.
