NATIONAL UNIVERSITIES COMMISSION (NUC) CONCLUDES A TWO-DAY ASSESSMENT VISIT TO CLARETIAN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA.

On Monday the 18th of March 2024, a delegation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) Abuja, paid a scheduled two-day assessment visit to the Claretian University of Nigeria on the review of the provisional Licence issued to the Institution in 2021. This visit was in line with the Commission’s constitutional mandate to assess CUN’S overall performance in the last three years of its existence to recommend either the extension of the provisional license or merit issuance of full license or in the worst-case scenario to withdraw the unmerited provisional license. This is quite a critical visit to CUN.
In his Welcome Address, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Professor Wenceslaus Madu, warmly appreciated the Acting Executive Secretary of NUC, Mr. Chris Maiyaki for sending the delegation to the University and for sustaining the innovative strategies of the NUC to reposition the NUC quality assurance and higher standards. He provided a comprehensive report on the state of the university, its modest achievements so far, challenges and its courageous strategic plans for actualizing its goals and objectives of securing the future through a high standard of teaching and learning.
The VC further noted that the University has grown impressively in its numerical strengths since it began its academic activities in October, 2021 with 71 students from 11 States of Nigeria and 2 other African countries. The number of students increased to 211 in its second year and in its third and current year, the University has a total student population of about 400. In the same vein, the academic staff increased from 43 in the first year to 138 in the current year, with good compliments of non-teaching staff in their different categories. The NUC team led by Mr. Theophilus Ogbor, a Deputy Director at the NUC, during the courtesy visit, brought felicitations from the Acting Executive Secretary, Mr Maiyaki and Mrs Lydia Imoroa, the Acting Director, Inspection and Monitoring.
Afterwards the NUC team was taken on an assessment tour of the campus and its facilities by the VC and his management. They visited the University’s ceremonial gate, medical centre, library, ICT centre, Auditorium, Sports facilities, all the departments and offices, hostels amongst others.
Recall that CUN had also played host to another delegation from NUC on program accreditation visit in December, 2023, during which the institution presented 10 academic programs currently running in the university.
