CUN HOSPITAL OPENS NEW COMPLEX

by cmf
The Psalmist says, “If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do its builders labour” (Ps 127:1). With hearts full of gratitude to God for his graces, the management and staff of Padre Pio Claretian University Hospital, Maryland Nekede, celebrated the opening of a new hospital complex.
The occasion began at 10:00 am with the Holy Mass at the Claretian Martyrs University Chaplaincy, presided over by the Provincial Superior of the Claretian Missionaries, East Nigeria Province, VRF Nathaniel Eke CMF, who was flanked by the Vice Chancellor of CUN, VRF Prof Wenceslaus Madu, CMF and the Chaplain of CUN chaplaincy, VRF Emmanuel Edeh, CMF. About fifteen (15) Claretian priests, concelebrated and some female religious, Claretian seminarians, the staff of CUN and other members of the laity were present.
The Provincial Superior, in his homily, pointed out the weight of God’s endowment upon all His people individually: some are teachers; others are apostles and healers (Eph 4:7). He mentioned that, all present came together to celebrate their different gifts that put into practice, through the grace of God. He noted that the Claretians carry out a tripartite apostolate in the university: first, the apostolate of teaching; second, the care of the soul (pastoral apostolate); third, the hospital apostolate. When the intellect, soul and body are sound, our formation will be holistic. He thanked CUN management, led by the Vice Chancellor, VRF Prof Wenceslaus Madu, for the show of indefatigable zeal and the great effort put into running the university and the hospital. He thanked the benefactors and benefactresses of the Claretian Missionaries and CUN who support the university and the Congregation morally and financially. The provincial superior also expressed gratitude to the medical practitioners and workers who handle the day-to-day activities and contribute in no small measure to the growth of the establishment. He prayed that God should grant everyone present the grace to put into action all the gifts they have received, in order to be like Jesus who went about doing good.
In his vote of thanks after post communion prayer, the Vice Chancellor of CUN, VRF Prof Wenceslaus Madu CMF appreciated in great measure all present. He mentioned of the Diocese of Paderbon, Germany, whose generous donation made the realization of the new hospital complex possible. He also thanked the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) of Imo State, the director and matron of the hospital and other staff who labour without counting the costs. He tendered words of appreciation to the Missionary Sisters of Mary Immaculate (Claretian sisters) immense contributions, Sisters of Jesus the Saviour Elele and the Franciscan Handmaids of Mary. The occasion also witnessed rendition of a birthday song in the church to VRF George Ekwuru, CMF who marked his birthday that day.
After the mass, everyone present proceeded to the new hospital complex and the Provincial Superior said the prayers for the blessing and dedication of the hospital building, after which the gesture of opening the new building was done. This is indeed a great step, and we all look forward to the prospects from here.
