LEADERSHIP TRAINING OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL EDUCATION BOARD IN THE PROVINCE
by

The Provincial Primary and Secondary Education Board began her inaugural meeting with a leadership training on the theme ‘Intentional Leadership’ on the 14th of February 2025 at the Providence House New Owerri, as structured by the chairman of the board Rev. Fr. Ernest Offor, Cmf. This intensive one-day training was anchored by Dr. Mrs. Tomi Fashuyi, a leadership expert, distinguished educator and a School Principal. She navigated skilfully through the topic of the day and defined intentional leaders as “those who are resolute and deliberate in their actions and communication”. It was quite an enriching leadership training with all the province’s school managers and principals. In attendance: Fr. Wence Isidienu, CMF (Prefect of Apostolate); Fr. Ernest Offor, CMF (Chairman); Fr Joseph Amaegwu, CMF; Fr Callistus Emenyonu, CMF; Fr Denis Uwakwe, CMF; Fr Emmanuel Anyaebosim, CMF; Fr Sixthus Anaejionu, CMF.

The training also featured elucidations on different sub-themes like transformative leadership, curriculum creation and types, leadership types and expectations etc. There were interactive moments and group discussions that gave room for contributions and exchange of ideas and experiences by the participants. Despite that it was a training scheduled for a day; it was a perfect way to begin because leaders themselves are ‘lead leaners’ and need to be schooled in the act of leadership.

Main Takeaways:

  1. To be a leader, you must first lead yourself.
  2. School administrators should bear in mind that the school is a human management environment.
  3. Empathy and emotional intelligence are vital tools for transformative leadership.
  4. Empathy is a 21st century skill that leaders should acquire because it creates emotional deposit.
  5. Transformative leaders possess the ability to impact inspiration and confidence in their employees

In conclusion, the intentional leadership training provided participants with valuable insights and practical tools to enhance their leadership skills and drive positive change in their respective schools. Fr. Ernest Offor the chairman of the board appreciated everyone for their availability and participation while Fr. Julius Ohiaege on behalf of the participants, articulated their sentiments of gratitude to the facilitator. As the inaugural meeting was scheduled for 15th February 2025 the principals and managers of schools left feeling inspired and motivated to embrace intentional and transformative leadership principles.
