CUN OPENS NEW ICT CENTRE SPONSORED BY SENATOR EZENWA ONYEWUCHI

The Claretian University of Nigeria (CUN), Maryland, Nekede, Owerri, was aglow with celebration as the institution officially commissioned its newly built Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Center, a landmark project sponsored by Distinguished Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Senator representing Imo East (Owerri Zone).

The commissioning ceremony, held on the university campus, attracted a distinguished gathering of leaders, clergy, academics, students, and community stakeholders. Among the dignitaries present were Her Excellency, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, PhD, Deputy Governor of Imo State, accompanied by her husband, Hon. Ike C. Ibe, former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly. Also in attendance were the traditional ruler of Irete in Owerri West Local Government Area, HRH, Eze Dr. Ekwelibe, Agunna I of Irete, and members of the academic community.

In her address, the Deputy Governor commended Senator Onyewuchi for his generosity, describing the ICT Centre as a gift that will empower the youth and strengthen the university’s mission. She emphasized that in today’s digital age, leaders must recognize that technology-driven education is not only a necessity but also a ministry of service to humanity. She further congratulated the Vice-Chancellor and management of CUN on their maiden convocation, assuring that she would inform the Governor of the institution’s remarkable strides.

Senator Onyewuchi, in his remarks, described the project as part of his ongoing commitment to educational development, youth empowerment, and digital literacy in the State. He noted that access to modern technological training is no longer optional but a critical foundation for competitiveness in the global economy. Urging students to dream big and work hard, he reminded them that with faith, skills, and determination, they could stand shoulder to shoulder with the best minds anywhere in the world.

The newly commissioned ICT Centre is a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with: Modern computer systems, High-speed internet connectivity, Multimedia resources and resources to enhance software learning, teaching, research, and innovation. The Vice-Chancellor, speaking on behalf of the university management, expressed profound gratitude to Senator Onyewuchi, describing him as a true friend and benefactor of the institution. He recalled that through the Senator’s generosity, the university had earlier benefitted from solar lighting, and now, with the ICT Centre, CUN has gained a vital resource for academic excellence.

Students who spoke with journalists expressed excitement and hope, noting that the ICT Centre would transform their learning experience and open doors to opportunities in areas such as: Data analysis, Digital communications, Software development and Online entrepreneurship. They described the centre as a divine opportunity to sharpen their skills and prepare themselves to serve both God and society.

The day’s event featured the official ribbon cutting performed by the Deputy Governor, symbolizing the opening of new paths of enlightenment. Guests were later taken on a guided tour of the ICT facility, led by the Vice-Chancellor, showcasing the fruits of collaboration between faith, leadership, and fraternity.

The commissioning of the ICT Centre stands as a testimony of faith and fraternity, demonstrating how visionary leadership and communal support can build sanctuaries of knowledge for future generations. With this milestone, Claretian University of Nigeria continues to grow as a beacon of academic excellence and spiritual service in Imo State.
