On 30 June 2019 the Youth and Children Apostolate organised Claret Children Thanksgiving Day. It is a day children from the different areas of our apostolates gather together to celebrate the life of Father Claret and thank God through the appreciation of the cultures of other people.
Over 1000 children were present for this event held at the Claretian Parish church of St Paul Umualum Nekede, Owerri Nigeria. Fr George Njoku, cmf a member of the Youth Apostolate organised the Children’s event. According to him the event is geared towards a greater appreciation of the life of St Anthony Mary Claret and to instill in young people the spirit of interculturality in line with the guidelines of XXV General Chapter.
In his reflection during the liturgical celebration the Provincial Secretary Fr Matthew Iwuagwu called the children to emulate Father Claret who was undaunted in any task and ever determined to accomplish great things for God.
It was also an event where children learnt to share what the have with the poor and downtrodden.
The children also had time to recreate and compete in different events like drama, cultural dance, bible quiz, debate in the local languages. Awards were given to kids who distinguished themselves during the events
