CLARETIAN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA HOLDS HER SECOND MATRICULATION CEREMONY

The Claretian University of Nigeria (CUN), Maryland Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria had its second matriculation ceremony on the 19th of May 2023. The occasion was graced with the Provincial Superior of the Claretian Missionaries, East Nigeria Province, VRF Nathaniel Eke (CMF) who was the Provincial Vicar and Prefect of Formation, VRF Ekwujuru Stanislaus (CMF). The proprietor of the University, the Superior General of the Claretian Missionaries, Very Rev. Fr. Matthew Vattamattam (CMF), was represented by the Provincial Prefect of Economy, Claretian Missionaries, East Nigeria Province, VRF Marcel Obilor (CMF). Other dignitaries present include; members of the Government of the Claretian Missionaries East Nigeria Province and West Nigeria Delegation, the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, vice chancellors of other universities, Traditional Rulers, members of the host community, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Philip Ogbonna (CMF), a college of Deans of different universities and other political dignitaries.
The day’s event began with a Holy Mass celebrated by the Vice Chancellor, VRF Prof. Wenceslaus Madu (CMF), and other priests present, including those working in the university. In his homily, the chief celebrant encouraged the students to apply themselves to the life and demands of tertiary education. He presented to them the unique values in Catholic education. He also asked them not to be afraid and to see themselves as people brought to the university by God’s providence for their betterment and the fulfilment of God’s purpose for each of them.
After the mass, the matriculation procession began. The hall was filled with staff, other students, and parents of the matriculating students. The friends of the university coloured up the day. This year, the university matriculated a total number of 152 students from across 12 states of the federation cut out for studies in various disciplines offered by CUN.
The university has witnessed an outstanding growth of 60% in its student population as compared to last year. It is indeed a great improvement from its maiden matriculation. All present expressed joy about the day’s event. They voiced their satisfaction about what they have witnessed at the university and the beauty of the day’s celebration.
